THE LAST DAY

THE LAST DAY

The last day is a PERIOD of time during which God will complete His resurrection program.
John 6
What is going to happen on "the last day"?
The focus is on resurrection.
V. 39, I will raise it up
V. 40, I will raise him up
V. 44, I will raise him up
V. 54, I will raise him up
Paul calls it "at the last trumpet" - 1 Cor. 15:52. This is a trumpet that calls to assembly.

The last day is the period of time that will begin AT HIS COMING. 1Cor. 15:23.
After that those who are Christ's at His coming.

John 11:24, "he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day."

John 12:48, "the word that I spoke is what will judge him on the last day."
Involved with resurrection will be a recognition of saved or not saved.
There is only one issue - or one "word that I spoke to you."
"while you have the light believe in the light in order that you may become sons of light." John 12:36.

At Mat. 16:27, Jesus calls the issue of judgment, recompense.
"For the Son of man is going to come . . . and will then recompense every man according to his deeds."
The one and only "work" that God requires for salvation is "This is the work of God that you believe in Him whom He has sent." John 6:39.

John 5:25-29, "an HOUR is coming, in which all who are in the tombs shall hear His voice."
This refers to a time PERIOD that will begin at the arrival of Jesus and conclude at the last judgment of Rev. 20:11.
When does resurrection occur?
1 Cor. 15:23-24, each in his own order.
First: Christ Himself as the first fruits
Second: those who are Christ's at His coming. Mat. 24:31, "gather HIS (Christ's) elect.
1 Thes. 4:14-17; 1 Cor. 15:51-52; Phil. 3:20-21; Col. 3:4

But "His coming" is a period of time. It is His PRESENCE, not a single moment in time.
The resurrection program involves a "first resurrection," and obviously, a second (or rather next, or last).
Rev. 20:4-5.
A resurrection of the righteous and of the unrighteous. Dan. 12:2; John 5:29; Acts 24:15;
For the first resurrection the righteous will be raised in stages.
1. rapture: Mat. 24:31; 1 Thes. 4:14-17; 1 Cor. 15:51-52; Phil. 3:20-21; Col. 3:4; Rev. 6:12-17 with 7:9ff.
And this will happen AFTER the tribulation. But that is after it will be cut short at an unknown day and hour by the decree of God who will bring the cosmic signs. It is NOT the end of the 70th week.
2. Those who die after the rapture: Rev. 20:4; Rev. 14:13.
3. Believers at the end of the mil. kingdom: Not mentioned, but certainly a fact.

For the unrighteous, Rev. 20:5, "the rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. "
This is then described as the last judgment in Rev. 20:11-15.
